The School

 

The Tamworth Christian Education Association runs two schools, Carinya Christian School Tamworth and Carinya Christian School Gunnedah. Combined, these schools provide a Prep - Year 12 education for over 800 students, where Jesus Christ is acknowledged, in both the strong academic profile and extra-curricular programs of the school.  Over 100 staff are employed by the Association across both schools.

 

Carinya Christian School Tamworth is a Prep to Year 12 School with 690 students and over 90 staff. The Tamworth school has operated for over 30 years and continues to grow along with Tamworth, and the suburb of Calala in which it is located.

The Position

This is a permanent full time position based at the Tamworth School. The Successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the terms, conditions and provisions of the Independent Schools NSW (Support and Operational Staff) Multi Enterprise Agreement 2015 - 2017. Based on qualifications and experience, the classifcation and salary of the position will be negotiable.

 

Key Objectives of the Position

  • General maintenance of the school’s building and equipment to a standard that ensures a safe environment for the school community
  • Further improve the school facilities by contributing toward the completion of minor capital projects
  • Supporting quality education through the provision of quality facilities 

Responsibilities Summary

  •  Assisting in the maintenance of buildings and infrastructure including:
    • Physical structures
    • Furnishings
    • Fixtures
    • Fittings
    • Infrastructure and services
  • Ensuring the school is kept in a good state of repair, and is clean, well presented and ready for use at all times
  • Maintaining machinery
  • Designing and constructing small engineering projects as requested
  • General upkeep of the Agriculture Facility
  • Adhering to the Work Health and Safety policies of the School at all times, only executing work for which an appropriate qualification is held, when a qualification is required
  • Supporting the day to day overall operation of the school including provisioning events with required equipment and services as requested
  • Testing and tagging of all electronic equipment at the school
  • Supporting the work of teachers
  • Attending staff meetings as required (ie Child Protection meetings)
  • Addition instructions received from the Property and Facilities Manager, the Business Manager or the CEO / Principal

Selection Criteria

Skills and Abilities

  • Applicants must have general maintenance and construction skills which makes it possible for them to understand and solve problems related to the role.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work independently and efficiently to manage their own workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to support the many and varied interactions with staff, contractor and service suppliers.

Prerequisites for the Role

  • A current Working With Children Check for paid employment.

Non Essential (but desirable)

  • Previous experience or employment in a similar role.
  • Trade qualifications or maintenance experience.
