Special Education Coordinator

Carinya Christian School is searching for a Special Education Coordinator.

Commencing Term 1 2018.

Applications are now being received from accredited teachers with qualifications in special education to work with and coordinate the support of students with learning needs from Prep to Year 12, in both the Tamworth and Gunnedah schools. 

Applicants require exceptional interpersonal and communications skills, and a demonstrated passion for maximising the learning of all students in inclusive settings.

Essential Selection Criteria

- Accreditation with NESA as a classroom teacher.

- Post Graduate Studies in Special Education.

- Eligible to work in child related employment.

- Committed Christian of reformed evangelical persuasion and an active participant in local church.

- Experience in supporting children with mental, psychological, learning, behavioral, or physical disabilities.

- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

The Position

Based in Tamworth, the Special Education Coordinator is a full time position. The core responsibilities of the position are to:

- Manage Learning Support Programs for students with specific learning needs.

- Liaise with both the parents and teachers of students with specific learning needs to facilitate the integration of students in the classroom.

- Coordinate and manage the activities of other learning support staff (teachers and aides).

Guide families in referrals to external agencies or services as required to identify and support the learning needs of students.

- Work closely with the Principal and Executive Staff to implement Learning Support Programs in the school.

- Receive referrals from teachers in the identification of students who require learning support.

- Facilitate the standardised testing of students as required.

- Coordinate the work of teachers to produce and maintain Individual Plans for students with learning needs.

The School

Carinya Tamworth is a Prep to 12 co-educational school. The school has a strong academic profile and a broad sporting and extra curricular program.

Over 500 families form part of the school community and more than 700 students are currently enrolled at the Tamworth school.


Teachers at Carinya are employed under the Independent Schools NSW Standards Model. This agreement provides entitlements which are above the industry average and enables career progression based upon professional development rather than years of service. The Special Education Coordinator will also receive a coordinator allowance.

Base Teacher Salary Range as of Feb 2018 - Band 1 $74,401 ; Band 2 $92,314 ; Band 3 $105,410

Professional development is an important priority of the school and two non-teaching weeks are set aside each year during student vacation for all staff to collectively participate in Curriculum and Professional development. Carinya Term Dates do not match NSW Public Schools and can be reviewed via the school website.
