Uniform Shop Manager and Administrative Support

The Tamworth Christian Education Association runs two schools, Carinya Christian School Tamworth and Carinya Christian School Gunnedah. Combined, these school provide a Prep - Year 12 education for over 750 students, where Jesus Christ is acknowledged, in both the strong academic profile and extra-curricular programs of the school.  Up to 90 staff are employed by the Association across both schools.

Maternity Leave Position - To Commence Mid April 2016 and Conclude 14th May 2017

Combined, this is a 5 day per week temporary part-time position. However, applicants interested in only one part of the role (i.e. Uniform Shop Manager alone) are still encouraged to apply.  Job sharing will be considered for suitable applicants. 

Uniform Shop Manager (2 Days per week or equivalent)

Reporting to the Business Manager (for Administration) and the Principal (for Uniform Policy), the Uniform Shop Manager is responsible for the complete operation of the Carinya Uniform Shop located at the Tamworth School. This is a varied and challenging role which includes:

  • Sourcing uniform from suppliers and managing ongoing relationships with those suppliers.
  • Determining the pricing of uniform to meet budget objectives whilst ensuring that uniform cost remains at a minimum.
  • Monitoring and maintaining appropriate stock levels, including regular ordering and the completion of an annual stock take.
  • Helping parents and students to comply with the school’s Uniform Policy.
  • Completing general uniform fittings and the fittings of Blazers for Senior Students.
  • Liaising with the uniform representative at the Gunnedah School and filling orders as required.
  • Managing temporary staff required during peak times.
  • Using MYOB to record all purchases, sales and stock levels.
  • Using BPoint, EFTPOS, and Banking Software to manage financial transactions.
  • Monitoring cash levels and the payment of suppliers.
  • Contributing to the development of the school’s uniform policy when requested.
  • Maintaining the Uniform Shop Notice Board on the School Website.

Key Selection Criteria

  • A courteous, tactful and confident manner: the Uniform Shop is one of the initial points of contact with the school for new families and the successful applicant will play an important role in welcoming new families to the school.
  • Previous experience with MYOB or similar software applications.
  • Attention to detail including strong analytical and planning skills.
  • Experience in using MS Excel and other MS Office products.
  • Ability to take initiative, identify and solve problems, and make recommendations to the Business Manager and the Principal.
  • Ability to work under pressure by applying themselves consistently and methodically at all times.

Hours of Work: As an indication, the Uniform Shop Manager may expect to work two days per week during Term times, with varied opening times during school holidays (refer to the Carinya Uniform Shop Notice Board on the school website to see current opening times). Ultimately, the hours worked are to be determined by the Uniform Shop Manager in consultation with the Business Manager and Principal.

Administrative Support (2 Days per week or equivalent)

Reporting to the school Office Manager, this aspect of the position requires strong analytical and computing skills, as well as the same qualities of tact, courtesy and initiative in relating to parents, students and staff. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Word processing
  • Front office reception duties
  • Data Entry
  • Assisting in Sickbay
  • Production of large mail and report runs

Hours of Work: Working around the opening hours of the Uniform Shop, this position is two days per week during Term times.

Sick Bay Attendant (1 Day per week)

Reporting to the school Office Manager, this aspect of the position requires patience, a compassionate and empathetic attitude, as well as the same qualities of tact, courtesy and initiative in relating to parents, students and staff. First Aid qualifications are required to fill this position, training can be provided for any applicants who do not hold a current certificate.

Hours of Work: Friday 9:00am to 3:10pm, during Term times.
