
Music
Music is offered as a compulsory subject until Year 8. From Year 9 Students can choose to do music as an elective subject. The elective music course exposes students to music of a wide range of styles, from Mozart to U2.
In Years 11 and 12 students can study Music 1, Music 2, and Extension Music. Music 1 is a more contemporary course, whilst Music 2 is a course that focuses more on art music.
Ensembles
Jazz Band, Secondary Choir, Primary Choir and various small choirs which are used for extension for more musically able students, and an Orchestra.
Musicals
Every two years the school stages a full musical which involves students from across the school. Carinya has staged Pirates of Penzance, Annie Get Your Gun, The Sound of Music, Oliver, Joseph, My Fair Lady, The King And I and Suesical the Musical.

Individual Tuition
Carinya offers individual Music Tuition in Violin, Flute, Vocal, Guitar, Piano, Percussion and Drums. Lessons are timetabled to take place on the same day, and in such a way that they do not miss the same lesson each week. In consultation with individual teachers, parents are welcome to come and sit in on lessons. Tuition is conducted in the school's individual music rooms by private music teachers. Tuition is paid directly to the individual teacher and is not included within school fees.
